Right after
the Easter weekend, Antje and I went to Austria, Achensee, Pertisau. The hotel
“Fürstenhaus” could be seen as such. Everything you would need to stress out
and lean back was available: pool, jacuzzi, sauna, massages, massive tropical rain
showers and spacious loungers.
Once again, a five course menu was served, in a
way that everything needed to be perfect, the table arrangement, the waiters’
attitudes and the overall style. And when not wellnessing or eating we were
exploring the nearby-things – and got sunburned while doing this. Three days
are just too short in time.
Just
5 days later, my cousin Rinkes and I have been on the road again. With his
1994-Fiat Punto we hit the highway, passed Munich just some hours later, then
Mittenwald and picked a well-located hotel in Neustift.
The boards were rented
quickly, and a few moments later, the shuttle bus brought us up the valley and
the gondola to the Top of Tyrol, with an altitude of 3210m above sea level.
The 360° view was stunning. The clouds got stuck far below, the sky was fresh
blue.
We stayed a long while before remembering what we were there for: Getting
two feet on one board. I stepped on it, fixed my feet to it, slipped … and tripped.
Damn it! Still not that easy. It went on like this for the next hour before I
got used to the handling again. We kept on going, up, down, up, down, and
enjoyed some local food every once In a while.
The weather usually turns cloudy
in the afternoon, which means we’ve been in the middle of it. That made
everything a bit more difficult, especially the 10 km slide down to the bus.
The hotel served an excellent 5 course menu – and we were not able to move
after a beer and sauna.
The bus
picked me up in Nuremberg, at 2:45 am!!! In the middle of the night. 5 hours
bus odyssey ahead. My knees were wedged to the seat in front of me, my head
leaning on the ice-cold window. 4 hours 59 minutes to go … Almost there!!!
The morning
coffee was the first good thing on that day so far. We changed cloths and took
another bus to the Seiser Alm. An huge skiing area, a bit flat for
snowboarders, with lots of cottages and hotels serving yummy specialities.
That
was exactly what we did the next days, skiing Obereggen and Sella Ronda
additional, sauna and 4 course menu in the evening. Nothing more possible, one
beer was doing the rest. Haven’t been in bed that early for a long time. Has
been a fun trip.
