Snowboarding the Stubaier Gletscher

Just 5 days later, my cousin Rinkes and I have been on the road again. With his 1994-Fiat Punto we hit the highway, passed Munich just some hours later, then Mittenwald and picked a well-located hotel in Neustift.

The boards were rented quickly, and a few moments later, the shuttle bus brought us up the valley and the gondola to the Top of Tyrol, with an altitude of 3210m above sea level. The 360° view was stunning. The clouds got stuck far below, the sky was fresh blue.

We stayed a long while before remembering what we were there for: Getting two feet on one board. I stepped on it, fixed my feet to it, slipped … and tripped. Damn it! Still not that easy. It went on like this for the next hour before I got used to the handling again. We kept on going, up, down, up, down, and enjoyed some local food every once In a while.

The weather usually turns cloudy in the afternoon, which means we’ve been in the middle of it. That made everything a bit more difficult, especially the 10 km slide down to the bus. The hotel served an excellent 5 course menu – and we were not able to move after a beer and sauna.
